GB Under 17’s Water Polo Curved Back

Shea Glider has always enjoyed sport, he played a lot of Rugby and enjoyed sailing and Judo, before starting Waterpolo at age 11. He was average height until year 7 where he grew incredibly fast skipping clothes and shoe sizes this with a lot of training unbeknown to us took a huge toll on his body causing his back to appear curved!

Shea began training in polo alot more as he moved through the regional programme and then into a National programme but was plagued with headaches and painful muscles and back pain. At the time I reconnected with Claire a childhood friend through my job and she told me that she would like to to take a look at Shea after he had to stop during his training. I explained we had seen lots of medical professionals and they explained it was caused by his sport and this is just how is body was now, No this was not the case! Claire spent 45mins working on Shea and the instant relief for him was phenomenal his back and shoulders now straight.

Shea now on GB U17’s has a more vigorous training programme but I as a parent am much better educated on Shea needing more than just training to progress in Sport, we see Claire regularly for a mixture of treatments and make sure we include the remedial therapy, rest and strengthening as part of Sheas programme. I feel in elite sports with minimal funding the young athletes and parents need better education around taking care of the body that essentially is your tool from nutrition to recovery.
